We are in one of the villages most stable population of the municipality of Requena

HISTORY

The hamlet was founded in the 15th century as a pasture land and watering hole called Balsa de Campo Haçis. This pasture is the current-day setting of the La Balsilla park. Its location, just 10 km away from Requena, means it's just one step away from all the services offered by the county capital while its residents enjoy a typically rural setting that's far away from busy roads.

ECONOMIC ACTIVITY

The main industry in Campo Arcís is wine making. There is one cooperative, Cooperativa de San Isidro Labrador (Tel. +34 96 230 09 14, www.campoarcis.com) and two wine producers: Bodegas Sebirán (Tel. +34 96 230 33 21, www.sebiran.es) and Bodegas Cerro Gallina (Tel. +34 676 89 72 51, www.cerrogallina.com). There is also a thriving mushroom industry, Champiñones Jiménez (Tel. +34 962 329 175, www.gimechamp.es).

The hamlet has a doctor's office open every day, a pharmacy and a private sports centre featuring a pool, racquetball and tennis courts and a multi-purpose track. It also has a public school offering pre-school and primary education.

CELEBRATIONS

The Feast of San Isidro, its patron saint, is on 15 May. A statue of the saint is paraded from the church to the cooperative. There is also a procession to the site known as Cañada Tolluda, which features an altar to the saint.

16 July is devoted to the Virgen del Carmen, with a procession and handing out of blessed bread. They celebrate outdoor dances on both feast days. There is also a cultural week in late July or early August, a grape harvest dance, and a week of celebrations at Christmas.
